You fire shots towards the gunman aiming at Kate. You and Kate fire at the same time. Both shots miss him but he immediately surrenders, dropping his weapon to the floor and raising his hands above his head.
At the same time, the other man fires his weapon. At point blank range, the professor has no chance of surviving.
The science is lost with the professor. Emily tells you that the professor encrypted his work and that she does not know where the decryption key is. She looks utterly defeated. Without the key, the data is worthless.
